We know data security is a primary concern. We are an e-waste solution with over a decade of experience. Below are three options to consider for your retired devices:

Organizations can erase disks themselves before donation. We provide training and tutorials on how to do it if needed.

Organizations can remove the disks before donation. We provide training and tutorials on how to do it if needed.

TechCharities can perform basic data wipe, permanent data erasures in partnership with BitRaser, or data disks destruction in compliance with NSA and NIST standards.

Where and when can I donate devices?

There are two options available:

1) Companies and individuals can drop off equipment to the following donation drop off sites:

  • TechCharities Office - Salt Lake | Mondays 10am-12pm

  • Open Doors - Layton | Mon-Fri 9am-4pm

  • Promise Co-Op - South Salt Lake | Mon-Fri 9am-6pm

2) Request TechCharities to schedule a pickup by sending an email to admin@techcharities.org. This is not for individual devices but for a minimum of 10 or more devices.

What steps are taken to maintain data security and reduce liability?

  1. Tag each donated laptop with a unique ID (for traceability and verification of work)

  2. Wipe all data disks with Kill Disk (single pass) or BitRaser NIS 800-88 (multiple pass)

  3. Provide certificate of date destruction, as requested.

  4. Remove all ID and tags of donating corporation.

  5. Test, upgrade, inspect, load operating system, and power up.

  6. Print label with specifications and UR code that is linked to the work performed.

How are the laptops distributed?

About 80% are distributed to households in Utah, and 20% to students internationally.  Computers may be ordered online and mailed, picked up at TechCharities’ office, or distributed through other partner agencies. If your organization

Is TechCharities willing to pay a fee to the company donating the laptops?

Yes. If necessary, TechCharities will pay a fee to help offset the loss of income that the company would have received by selling the laptop. The company can also receive a tax credit for the donation to TechCharities, a 501c3 corporation.

Is my donation of used electronic equipment tax-deductible?

Yes. Upon request, TechCharities provides a donation reciept with pay a fee to help offset the loss of income that the company would have received by selling the laptop. The company can also receive a tax credit for the donation to TechCharities, a 501c3 corporation.


What equipment do you accept for donations?

We accept both desktops and laptops within the past 10 years that are in working or repairable condition. We prefer laptops. And prefer devices within the past five years.
